Hernan Crespo has confessed that he misses Italy and would like to return to the country he piled his trade in last season. The Chelsea man returned from a season-long loan at AC Milan at the start of the 2005/06 campaign, but has since been dogged by claims that he is not happy in London - rumours not helped by news that he and boss Jose Mourinho had a row over the player's recent international duties. Now, after struggling to hold down a regular first-team place, the Argentine has admitted that he would love to return to Italy preferably with Milan and coach Carlo Ancelotti. "I would like to return to Italian football," Crespo told Sky Italia. "I'd like to go back to Serie A because Italian football is made for me. I still have two years to run on my current deal. But we will see. Carlo Ancelotti will always be my favourite coach even if I were to join another club."
After we brought you news that Bolton's Tal Ben Haim was the subject of transfer interest from Chelsea earlier in the week, Wanderers boss Sam Allardyce has today admitted that he fears the rumours will come into fruition. "There's normally no smoke without fire," he told Sky Sports. "I think the chairman has spoken to someone at Chelsea who says if they were interested they would contact him, but again you can't always say that's the truth these days. In the end we will only find out by fact, but that at this moment in time, there's been no contact from Chelsea football club to our football club regarding Tal Ben Haim and the sale of his registration to their club. At the moment it lies as pure speculation but then of course when Pini Zahavi gets mentioned in terms of the equation, you know how good a representative and how good an agent the man is, so there has to be perhaps something in it, like I said. The problem is if in January we already have five players leaving for the African Nations Cup, Tal going makes six and you can't replace him. It's that simple. The club can't really look at any offer for Tal Ben Haim in January."
It seems that Roy Keane is set to join Celtic in the latter half of this week. It had previously been reported that the former Manchester United midfielder was to move to Real Madrid at the end of this week after passing a medical with the Spanish club at the weekend. However, today's Sun newspaper claimed on both front and back pages that the player will move north of the border to Celtic instead. The Scottish side have apparently held talks with Keane who is more than happy about joining the club he once idolised as a boy. This, of course, could all be idle speculation. But whatever happens, it looks like we will get a firm indication about Keane's intentions by the end of this week.
Paulo Wanchope has admitted that he hopes to return to the Barclays Premiership in the January transfer window. The Costa Rican striker has played in English football's top division before with the likes of Derby County, West Ham and Manchester City. After leaving the City of Manchester Stadium in August 2004, for first Malaga and then Qatari side Al-Gharrafa, Wanchope has now admitted that he would like to return to England as preparation for the World Cup. "It's been a good experience in the Middle East but I will go back to Europe in January and England is my first choice," said Wanchope. "I'm still in the Costa Rica team and I'm going to the World Cup so I am keen to improve my sharpness - and England is the place to do that. I miss the excitement the English Premiership generates. The atmosphere is very good. I need that atmosphere to build up my game for the World Cup."
Manchester City have joined the race for Ajax star Steven Pienaar. The midfielder is highly regarded in Holland, but with his contract with the Amsterdam club expiring at the end of the season, it is understood Ajax officials are keen to cash in and sell the player before he becomes free on a Bosman. Celtic and Borussia Dortmund are reported to be interested, but with Ajax only demanding a fee of around
Portsmouth are lining up a move to bring out-of-favour Tottenham Hotspur midfielder to Fratton Park. Yesterday we reported that the youngster was frustrated by his lack of first team opportunities at White Hart Lane and suggested he may look to a move. Now, it seems that Harry Redknapp is keen to take advantage of Davis' situation and is set to offer Spurs
